Google Mobile Update: What to do if your current website is NOT mobile friendly

Google have announced that on 21st April they are rolling out an update that specifically affects any website that is not mobile friendly by this date.

In Google’s own words: “Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.”

What it means is that any website that is NOT mobile friendly will always have a lower ranking than other websites that are mobile friendly.

Mobile devices now account for over 50% of Internet use. If your website is not mobile friendly, over half the world’s Internet users will not be able to find YOUR website as easily after 21st April. And over half the people who do visit your site will still not be able to view it properly either.

You can easily check for yourself if your website is mobile friendly by going to and entering your website address. Google’s report also tells you WHY your current website is not mobile friendly too so you understand what we have to do to make it so for you.

Alternatively you can Google yourself on your mobile. If you don’t have the grey “mobile friendly” tag next to your result, your website is NOT mobile friendly.

If you Google “what will happen if my website is not mobile friendly by 21st April” you can also read any number of articles about what will happen and how it will affect you.

It’s your call but they have now made it abundantly clear what the consequences of continuing to ignore this warning are.

As you can imagine, this news has made thousands of businesses realise that they need to upgrade their websites as a matter of urgency. The rush is on!

We have set up a dedicated service to try and help as many businesses as possible to get their sites upgraded to be mobile friendly by 21st April as we can.

We operate on a first come, first served basis so the sooner you contact us, the more chance we have of upgrading your website for you before this date.

There are two ways we can do this for you.

We can create a responsive, mobile friendly website for you, add/migrate up to 7 pages of content and then show you how to migrate the rest yourself using our easy to use content management system. This costs £350 plus VAT.

Or we can add/migrate ALL your content for you, and train, monitor and support you as you continue to maintain and edit it. This would cost more and really depends on the amount and complexity of the content involved. As a guide, based on our “average” sites, this could be an additional £500 – £1,000 plus VAT, and if it’s a larger site, we may not be able to get all of it migrated before 21st April.

Your site will be hosted on our award winning LightCMS cloud based web platform. This costs £29 plus VAT pm (or £295 plus VAT pa) and includes e-commerce, unlimited pages, products, users and data storage. And being cloud hosted, all future platform upgrades, new features and functions are all added and maintained for you. You’ll just edit your content with us here in the background as and when you need us. We’ll handle any changes required to your domain hosting for you too.

And with our unique “No Obligation” service, you only pay us when we’ve completed the work and your new fully responsive and mobile friendly website goes “live”.

Call us on 01526 352919 as soon as possible so that we can ensure your website meets Google’s mobile criteria before the deadline, or complete our online enquiry form. If you want to read more, go our dedicated Google Mobile Update page.
