Scams to be aware of!
Some clients have been contacted by telesales organizations and have been told that someone else is trying to register a variation of their domain name. Sometimes this is a variation of the same domain name[s] that you already have, but with a different extension [.biz, .org, etc], sometimes it’s a variation of your actual name but with the same extension. The common factor is that they advise the client that they can stop this happening by giving the client the opportunity to register these variations NOW!
Of course, if you think about it, this is simply a ruse to get you to register some extra domains that you don’t want anyway! Hopefully, you already have the domain names that you want, and if you do think you want to register any others, give us a ring first!
We also ought to take this opportunity of telling you about an old scam this is – amazingly! - still doing the rounds after 10 years: The Domain Registry of America.
You get a letter in the post which looks like an official renewal form telling you that your domain is due to expire soon and that you can transfer and renew the domain with the Domain Registry of America. This has been doing the rounds for years. Your domain[s] are safe and secure and will be renewed so just ignore it if you do get one of these.
